Melatonin is a natural hormone made in the pineal gland, a pea-size gland located in the brain. Since its first discovery in 1958, melatonin has been studied extensively and shown to play a significant role in mediating a wide array of cyclic behavior. Recent studies have demonstrated a role for melatonin in facilitating the onset of natural sleep.
